Would You Like To Win A Trip To The Bahamas For Only £2.00?
Well the signs are that we may well be about to start the golfing season as the weather appears to be getting better. There is a men’s competition this Saturday and a MONTHLY STABLEFORD and then the next event for the men is on SUNDAY 21st MARCH. This is the MONTHLY MEDAL AND VIRGIN ATLANTIC NATIONAL PRO-AM QUALIFIER. This has to be one of the best events in the golfing calendar for many club members across the country, as for only £2.00 you could win your way this year to Jamaica. This year the Grand Final is to be held at the stunning Greg Norman designed Emerald Reef Golf Course at the Sandals Resort Emerald Bay on Great Exuma, Bahamas.

Last year, if you did not already know, young Harry Millburn-Fryer (who won the qualifier) and myself won the qualifier at Saunton and then went on to finish runners up after losing at the 2nd extra hole in the play off. The event was at The PGA Sultan course in Antalya, Turkey and was over 36 holes, played in better ball format. The 5 day trip was all expenses paid and was truly magnificent, even playing under the stress of being filmed for Sky TV. One 60 foot putt denied us of outright victory when the amateur from Far Grange Park holed out on the final green. (See photos below)

SO IF YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY ENTERED THE QUALIFIER GET YOUR SKATES ON!!!!!! And let’s see if we can get to the Bahamas this year.

Chipping with Pete
The last few months my chipping has not been up to standard, and by a quirk of fate, lots of the members have asked me to give them chipping lessons!!! So, I have been practising so that I can demonstrate the action during my lessons. I have gone back to the basics of chipping. The following picture (Fig 1) shows the set-up, feet together, weight on the left foot, the feet and the hips are slightly facing to the left. Aiming slightly to the left helps you to turn and get the hands through to the target.

There is myth in golf that you have to keep your head still during your shot. As you can see from the picture below (Fig 2) I have turned through the shot and my head is facing where the ball has gone. Again, hold the finish until the ball stops rolling, this will help with accuracy and feel for the shot. (The chip in the photo went to a foot, I was happy with that!!)

STABILITY MEANS NOTHING WITHOUT FLEXIBILITY
How effectively your feet interact with the ground determines both the amount of power you can deliver to the ball AND how square the clubface is at impact. That, as we discussed last week, is why a stable shoe will deliver more performance.

Now it’s important that we highlight the factor that differentiates stability (which we want in a golf shoe) from rigidity (which we certainly don't want in a golf shoe). The shoe needs to work with the foot as it moves through the swing, enabling more of the sole to be in contact with the ground. The more of the sole and the spikes that are in contact with the ground the better the traction becomes and the better power is transferred.

Now add two more important factors - comfort and style - into the mix and the “Which one?” decision becomes all the more complicated. It shouldn’t be, and that’s why I stock a very specific range of shoes in the shop. My selection is designed to remove hassle and confusion from the equation. Just ask and I’ll help you make the right choice based on your needs.

CLOTHING PREDICTIONS FOR 2010: PART 2
Your car likely has climate control, your house and office almost certainly have central heating and I’ll guarantee that you won’t get into a bath or shower without making sure the temperature is adjusted correctly first. Why? Because you want to be comfortable or productive or happy in whichever surrounding you find yourself in. So why should the golf course be any different?

Golf specific “Smart” fabrics have been developed to help you perform at your best on the course. They’ll help keep you cooler and sweat-free when it’s hot, warmer and comfortable when it’s cold, and restriction free when you need it most; while you swing. Also, the combination of ‘smart’ fabrics with traditional threads means these shirts don’t look or feel much different from the ‘traditional’ golf polo, which means that you’ll be able to enjoy their benefits off the course just as easily as you will on it.
Think of all the ‘real-world’ benefits that once-considered ‘golf only’ technologies have brought to the table; fabrics that hold their shape while resisting creases and stains, colours that won’t fade, and collars that don’t curl... Look through your wardrobe and tell me which of your day-to-day garment wouldn’t benefit from some of these characteristics!
Web Article: SRIXON TRI-SPEED GOLF BALLS
  Srixon Tri-Speed Golf Balls
Those who swing a club at a more moderate pace will likely require distance from their golf ball, because their lack of clubhead speed curbs their ability to generate it on their own. For these golfers, a lower compression ball is needed if the club is to activate the energy of the ball’s core.

A two-piece ball offers this distance but lacks spin control. Conversely, a more expensive Tour ball generates spin but needs more clubhead speed to create any distance. This is where the Trispeed excels; the distance of a two-piece ball but with some of the spin characteristics of a Tour ball – at a price point between the two.
